Letter: The high cost of Liberal policies

George C. Sharpe of Regina writes:

When it comes to choosing their political representatives, Canadians seem to often have short memories.

Here we are on the verge of a carbon tax being imposed that will create a considerable jump in the cost of living. There will be, of course, a jump in the price at the pump, then the cost of plane tickets will rise yet again with even more taxes on them (as if the fees we pay on them aren’t high enough already!) Power and heating bills will increase and our primary job-creating industries will be hard hit with higher operating costs, which may force yet more layoffs.

Add to these woes the fact that Prime Minister Justin Trudeau has announced plans to cut health-care transfers to the provinces, which will reduce health services and lower our overall quality of life.

In 1993, Jean Chretien slashed health transfers, forcing the provinces to cut front-line services. He also added all those pesky airport user fees and taxes on airfares, as well as other tax increases.

As unemployment rises month by month, we have our federal government determined not to allow any new pipelines to be built. As if all this isn’t bad enough, it is quite likely that we will see an increase in the GST next year.

So, if you like paying more to get less, you know who to vote for in the next federal election. If not, please get out and vote for a change for the better and say “enough is enough!”
